Historic Preservation is an Influential & Transformative Process with Social and Economic Benefits for communities.

Community stakeholders drive our vision. We believe in a strong, mission-oriented track record that directly benefits multiple community members.

Our Story

It’s pronounced: F-OH-G (f-ˈoʊ-g). You can also spell out the acronym, say the full name, or even call us ‘The Friends’. Whatever your heart desires.

Friends of Historic Germantown is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, established in 2021, and chartered by the NYS Board of Regents. We formed to fill a void in the southwestern corner of Columbia County, which until 2021, lacked any historical and preservation organization. FOHG assists local historians in securing grants for collections, historic preservation, and community engagement.

To this end, we work with the Germantown History Department in preserving and restoring the 1767 Maple Avenue Reformed Sanctity Parsonage. Together, we apply for grants that will bring greater accessibility and high-quality exhibits and programs on local history to the community. We believe that preserving, interpreting, and making rich local histories easily accessible is the foundation of a successful community partnership.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
